The Site is on South Main Street in the Historic District. There are only a few Buildings remaining from the 1920's of this significance. It is of the same architecture as the old Cherry and Webb building that is also on South Main Street. We at the Capitol have a chance to preserve the building's architecture along with the present owner's. They are willing to give us the opportunity to restore the old Capitol Building for the Performing Arts Center. The buildings interior is of elegance; from the spindles on the walls, to the moldings on the ceilings and the lobby flooring of terrazzo marble. The magnificent chandeliers, original from the 1920's are still hanging in the Theater. There was once a mural painted over the main entrance; a Czech Roderic Riseman, a duplicate of the famous futuristic work which hangs in the Louvre in Paris. The architecture in the building is still astonishing even in despair.
The Capitol Theater is currently not in use. We have closed off the stage area and the entrance of the theater until we can raise enough money to refurbish the main entrance of the Building.
The progress of the has been slow, but I have been trying to do it on my own, most of the time. I know that you get a lot more done if you don't do it alone.....
I have been in the telecommunications business with my husband for over 30 years and we purchased the building to use as our main offices. After we saw the Theater we knew we had to try and restore her Beauty.
